Although Halloween is my favorite time at the Disneyland Resort, the winter holidays do give it quite a run for first place! I love how Disney goes all out with the decor for every holiday; it's' sort of how I would decorate my own house if I had a million-dollar budget and lots of cast members to help me :) Every area is festooned with holiday decor, but not just any old garland, mind you: every piece of decor is reflects the themes and the character of the land it decorates. Here are some of my favorite areas:
New Orleans Square looks it's caught between Mardi Gras and Christmas. There are giant masks, beads, and baubles hanging from every balcony.
Frontierland has a more rustic feel, mostly pine garlands with red ribbons. I can just imagine Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little Town on the Prarie decorating their storefronts like this:
Critter Country adds fruits, nuts, and pinecones to their garlands, which is probably what the woodland animals would feast on for their Christmas dinner.
Rancho del Zocalo adds a Hispanic flair, with indigenous materials, clay dolls, and colorful paper stars symbolizing the Star of Bethlehem.
The garlands adorning Disney's California Adventure entrance are sleek and shiny, just like the Art Deco entrance structure.
The bells on Buena Vista Street look so striking against the adobe walls and tile roofs!
A Bug's Life wins second place in my ranking of Best Themed Decor at the Disneyland Resort. They've made it look like the bugs have scavenged decorations from a human garbage dump! Since the whole area takes a bug's eye view, all the decorations are larger than life, from the colored lights to the balls to the Santa Claus eraser at the end of a pencil.
The winner for Best Themed Decor at the Disneyland Resort? Cars Land, by a mile. From the whitewall tire wreaths along the main drag, to the oil can tree at Flo's V8 Cafe to the mini orange cone bunting at the Cozy Cone Motel, every single area has its own unique style.
Even the Cars Land welcome sign has been dressed up for the holidays, with snowflakes in the background, snowy landscapes, and a special "Seasons Speedings" greeting! And let's not even get started on the adorable Mater snowtruck!
