A Recipe for One Perfect Day

Whether you're a city dweller who's starved for something green, or you've been eating too many couch potatoes lately or you're just tired of asphalt and concrete, have I got some soul food for you. Here's a recipe that's chock-full of 2 healthy ingredients, fresh air and nature. Try it and enjoy!

View of the GG Bridge from Fort Point

Start with the perfect park, such as San Francisco's Golden Gate Recreation Area, a California state park featuring popular destinations like Crissy Field and hidden gems like Fort Point. Don't live near San Francisco? No worries, there are tons of beautiful parks all over the country -- hey, eating local is the only way to go!)

Sift together a great bunch of bloggers and friends, including Kimberly from Tippytoes and Tantrums, Akemi from Chalk and Cheese Chronicles, Nicole from Not Just a Working Mom, Leah from A Boy And A Girl, Jenny from Three Kid Circus, and BlogHer's Lisa Stone.

Canon Loading

Add a pinch of history and education via free ranger-led tours (note: if you throw in hands-on activities like canon-loading demonstrations, this will be much easier to feed to your kids -- in fact, they will be begging for extra helpings).

Mix in a delicious picnic lunch, sponsored by BlogHer and Coca-Cola.

Crissy Field

Blend with fun games like bocce ball, frisbee toss, soccer, and general running-with-joyous-abandon-up-and-down-a-huge-grassy-meadow.

Games

Top with a liberal helping of gorgeous sunshine (optional, but if you're lucky enough to get it, it makes the whole thing so much more delicious!).

Simmer for the entire day. Consume regularly at your favorite national, state or local park for maximum benefits to health and happiness.

If a day in the park sounds like your cup of tea, you'll be glad to know that Coca-Cola wants to get everyone feeling the same way! Coca-Cola's America Is Your Park campaign encourages people to play and get active in the park this summer, and in the process help a park receive a recreation grant provided by Coca-Cola Live Positively.

About America Is Your Park
America Is Your Park is a program that encourages people of all ages to get active in the park this summer. In the process, people can vote for their favorite national, state or local park to win a recreation grant to restore, rebuild or enhance places within the park to play or be active. The park with the most votes will be named "America's Favorite Park" and get $100,000 from the Coca-Cola Live Positively initiative, which is now in its second year of sponsoring the program. Two runners-up will receive$50,000 and $25,000. You can help your favorite park win by voting online at LivePositively.com/americasparks, uploading photos from your favorite park to LivePositively.com or, checking in via Facebook Places from your favorite park. Voting runs until September 6, 2011.

Disclaimer: I am being compensated by Coca-Cola and BlogHer for organizing the event as well as blogging and vlogging about the event.

  2. Crissy Field is a favorite of ours! Did you get your passport stamped? There are 3 stamps at the Crissy Field's Warming Hut. And there are stamps at Fort Mason, Fort Point, Alcatraz, Cliff House, Muir Woods, and various other areas within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Its a great way for families to expand their National Park horizon, document their adventures, and have a family hobby that can last through generations!

I wrote a blog post with more information on it here:
